How does the song The Great Escape by Boys Like Girls represent our current times?

I found a site that has the lyrics and 50 some people responded to the meaning the song had to them. If you click on the link and read people's answers [which are pretty short] you can develop your own opinion. The answer that I most agreed with because she gave song quotes and described what she felt was the answer on the 2nd page by ndqupz.


She feels the song is about high school students who are purchasing items because they are packing up to go to college. She feels the song is about one last night to have fun, before they go there separate ways.





How does this represent our current times? Are you a student who will pack up and leave your town, because there is nothing there for you? Might you move to go to school or to a place that had a better economy? Do most high school students get married right after high school and settle in their hometowns? I think that is a thing of the past. We are a mobile society now. We all branch out to different cities, countries, and search for more education and or experiences.
