WHY do we download a hooker's song more than a song by a vet for our TROOPS and their families?

I am a disabled veteran who recorded a song for our Troops and their families called OCEANS BETWEEN US and have heard from these folks as to how it really has made a difference for them. Yet a hooker who serviced a john gets more downloads then this one. We have really hit a bottom in the US haven't we?

WHY do we download a hooker's song more than a song by a vet for our TROOPS and their families?
First of all, thank you for what you have done and are doing to support the troops and freedom. Despite the bleak look of things, there are many in the silent majority who appreciate what is being done for the betterment of the world.

It is a very poignant question to which there are multiple answers. As a musician myself, it is very hard to get anything of intrinsic value across. Anymore, it is all about marketability. What a horrific word! I could rant and rave all day, but in many respects, our lives are so determined by an elite group of marketers and promoters with a seemingly limitless supply of filthy lucre.

Sadly, it is money that kills true art. I play jazz, blues, and funk, all of which are currently undesirable because there is no money in it. I know what it is like to have quality music available and have everyone turn a deaf ear to it. It used to really keep me up at night.

However, marketability set aside, I almost like the feeling of being a suffering Indie artist. It sure doesn't put bread in my pocket, but it makes me feel "legit." I checked out the website and was impressed. Don't let "the man" (oh geez, I sound hippie!) get you down! I fully anticipate that we will have an artistic "holocaust" of sorts sometime soon, and when the world craves tasty music, there we will be, ready to give them the good stuff.

Keep the musical faith, sister!
Reply:Unfortunately, people find more interest in sexual scandals than they do in troop support right now. Also, consider the audience makeup of people who have a mature idea of whats going on abroad vs. the people who are interested in the singing lives of hookers. The latter is a much younger crowd that is more prone to using the internet more often, so naturally there will be more downloads.

Also, the Iraq War has been going on for so long now that it's easy for most people to mostly forget that there are still soldiers out there putting themselves in constant danger every hour. The deal with Spitzer is a brand new story, and because it's sexual and hypocritical, people are ogling and going "ooohhh shiny new drama!" But it's something most people are going to forget about in a week, as they did Mark Foley (betcha you can't remember the name of the woman HE was involved with at the time of his scandal!).

And remember "Who Wants To Marry A Millionaire" a few years back? Betcha can't remember offhand the names of the participants involved...:) Seriously, stories like this have a way of passing after a while. Give it a week or two and the downloads will drop off once the novelty does.
Reply:Hit the Bottom? or are well overfed %26amp; over indulged in our every whim?

Thereby - to oft 'titilated' - Lacking in moral fiber-integrity as it is just an easier way to feel (something-anything) for a little while longer.....

The above answer Vangorn2 tells the same kind of idea...we crave the story....and want to keep up....
Reply:Well, I wouldn't really be into a song about our troops. No disrespect to you or anything, but I just don't like sappy songs like that. However, I love gettin' down to some sexy music.

No, we have a long way to fall yet.
Reply:I think it's simply because she's getting a lot more publicity than you.
